Sightseeing on and around Apliu Street

Apliu Street is in the heart of the residential and commercial Sham Shui Po district, nearby are many interesting examples of real Hong Kong life for those interested in the culture of the region.

Shopping

Golden Computer Centre - If you are visiting Apliu Street because of the electronics on offer in the flea market, then you are sure also to be interested by this arcade selling computers, computer parts, and accessories.  The centre is two adjoining, but not interconnected, malls at 152 Fuk Wa St, Hong Kong.  Golden Shopping Arcade is accessible from the corner of Yen Chow Street and Fuk Wa Street, just opposite the McDonalds, while Golden Building Shopping Arcade is upstairs from a large entrance just along the street in Fuk Wau Street

Dragon Centre - A modern multi-story indoor shopping arcade at the north end of the Apliu Street.

History

Lui Seng Chun - A Grade I listed historical building just a few minutes from Apliu Street the Lui Seng Chun is a rare example of a curved front Tong Lau, or "shop house" which is maintained in it's original style with deep balconies.  The majority of such buildings in Hong Kong have been enclosed while this one retains the original openness than in the 1930's when it was built made it a cool and fashionable building.  Now part of the Hong Kong Baptist University the building is not open to the public but it's fascinating architecture can be well appreciated from the exterior.  Situated on the corner of Lai Chi Kok road and Tong Mi Road it is 300 meters along Poplar Street from the south end of Apliu Street.  Guided tours by appointment are available twice a day in the afternoon, enquire with the university for details. https://scm.hkbu.edu.hk/lsc/en/index.html

Sham Shui Po Police station - Since 1924 this has been a police station and is a Grade III listed building in Hong Kong.

Flea market and Piece Goods

The Electronics Flea Market and the Piece goods shops are the most famous parts of Aplui Street, but this important street has a long history and even now is home to a vibrant community.

Look out for the photography equipment shops, and spend some time in the public sitting out areas.
